Gen. Samuel Borden

REFERENCE: Colonial Families of Philadelphia; "Belonged to the prominent New Jersey family of the name, for whom Bordentown was named... . Came to Philadelphia early in life, engaged in mercantile pursuits, and was a captain in the regular U.S.A., during the war of 1812-1814, but tiring of the inactive military routine, after the close of the war, resigned from the army, in 1816, removed to Cincinnati, Ohio, and engaged in mercantile pursuits there.  He was an active public-spirited man, and held a number of city and county offices.  He also took an active interest in military affairs, and passed through the various grades of militia service, to the office of Brigadier General of State Militia of Ohio, which he held at the time of his death at the age of fifty-three years.'
