Mariner. They lived at 97 State St., New Bedford Mass in 1888. Capt. Weeks worked on his father's farm until 16 years of age, then at blacksmithing until 20, at which age he entered upon a seafaring life, in the whaling ship Good Return. He was later Captain of several Whale ships such as the Endeavour (1841); Congress (1843) ; Iris (1847). All voyages were successful taking in over 24,000 barrels of oil.
Son William followed the sea, a tradition particularly strong in the Bakerville section of Dartmouth; he rose through the ranks to become master of several Whaling ships (out of New Bedford which is located next to Dartmouth), as did his brother, Joshua Jr.
