DESCENDANT: Mary L. Ash [O2bwiseash@aol.com] wrote T.Mason on 10Jul2001 that "My grandfather, George Baynham Rice was raised by his maiden Aunt Mag and his unmarried Uncle Baynham on Cloverdale farm in Essex County, Virginia. My grandfather was born on January 19, 1885, in Essex County. Another of the family farms was Eastern View, also in Essex County.
The family story was that times were very hard, his mother Catherine (sp?) died and his father (George) remarried, so my grandfather and his sister Nancy were sent to live with his mother's brother and sister. I believe they are listed in your records as James Baynham Fauntleroy and Margaret Govan Fauntleroy. Another unmarried aunt was Roberta Latane Fauntleroy who worked many years in Washington, DC, later becoming quite eccentric and lived to be over 100.
