Notes

Robert Benjamin Carper

Information received from Special Collections Assistant at Tompkins McCaw Library, Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond. Virginia 23298 on 21 Jun 2005 by T.Mason. "We have an account from his brother, Wyndham Randolph Carper, of his 'adventures' during the Civil War as a member of Company D of the 11th Virginia Volunteers Infantry, CSA.  This unit was known as The Fincastle Rifles.
Robert Carper was a doctor, and graduated from the Medical College of Virginia in 1861, yet joined the Fincastle Rifles as an infantryman, not a doctor. As per your information, he
died during the Battle of Williamsburg in the opening part of the Peninsula Campaign."
