Notes

Gershom Wodell V

ANCESTRY: Records provided to T.Mason by Jo-Anne (Yates) Nasser on 13 Apr 2001. EXTRACT: He made his home between the towns of Tiverton and Fall River Mass, where he owned a farm and also a hotel, being one of the best known hotels in that section of the State.  He was well known for his strict integrity and for his intense hate of any form of dishonesty in others.  There is a tradition in the family to the effect that his neighborhood there was a family whose trickery and dishonesty were proverbial and Mr. Wodell promised his friends and neighbors that when the last member of that family had left the neighborhood he would give an oxen roast. He lived to see the day when in fullfillment of that promise he gave the ox-roast - the roasting taking 3 days and giving a feast to all the people in the vicinity.  Mr. Wodell served in the war of the Revolution and was always active in public affairs.  He died at his homestead and was buried in the family cemetary. He was the father of twenty two children.
