James A. Leggett

(3) "Records of Louisiana Confederate Soldiers, etc." by Andrew B. Booth, Vol. III, Bk. 1 states:  "Leggett, Jas. A., Pvt. Drewes' Batty.  Rolls of Prisoners of War.  Paroled Monroe, La., June 15, 1865.  res. Carroll Parish, La.
(4) 1860 Monticello, Carroll Parish, LA census12 & 23 June 1860, lists him at 26 yrs. with his first wife and family. Occupation given is planter, with real estate valued at $1,600and personal estate valued at $800.00. His wife, Eliza M. Leggettaged 27 yrs., housewife, lists a value of real estate of $3,200, with personal estate of $300.00.  Two children are listed and James' brother, Erasmus H. Leggett is shown living with him.
(5)  Girard, Richland Parish, LA census, 5 Aug. 1870 shows him at age 36, with three children living at home.  His brother, E. Holmes Leggitt, wife Jennie and their three children are living with him.  Sarah J. Wright, aged 18 yrs is also living in the same household.
(6) 1880 Richland Parish, LA census lists him with second wife, Lucy (Lanier) and children, James N. (20 yrs.), Beauregard (15 yrs.), Laura (5 yrs.), Clifton (3 yrs.) and Lucy (2 yrs.).  His occupation is given as planter, with MS given as place of birth.  (Microfilm roll # T9, reel no. 467.)
(7) 1900 Richland Parish, LA census gives birth date as Apr. 1834, 66 yrs. of age in that year. Living with son, Wm. Clifton "Cliff" Leggett with occupation given as surveyor.
(8) Tombstone in Midway Cem., Richland Parish, LA, names "J. A. Leggett & family," but gives no dates.
(9)  Richland Parish, LA Feb. 26, 1872 records that James A. Leggett sold land to Samuel F. Calvit and mentions: J. L. Leggett, James N. Leggett, & G. T. Beauregard Leggett (his children).

The undivided 1/2 of community property between her and her husband, Alanson OSLIN, says Alanson OSLIN died in 1858, says their property located on Beoff/Beouf River. James A. LEGGITT says he is he son of Prudence OSLIN and step-son of Alanson OSLIN. James LEGGITT asks for an inventory of the estate Jan.24, 1867-160 acres, bounded on West by
Beoff/Beouf River, apprased at $3 per acre appraisers were: James M. WATSON and Henry MAYNADIER. Witness: Peter J. GUIER-Feb.28, 1867
