Obituary: 31 Dec 1891 Called Away-Death of Mrs. Mahlon Haworth at the age of 70
Mrs. Sarah Jan Woolman Haworth, wife of Mahlon Haworth and mother of Hon. L.L. Haworth, Geo. D. Haworth, James W. Haworth, Mrs. K.H. Roby and Mrs. Geo. S. Simpson, passed away in death Saturday night at 11 o'clock, at the family home at 351 West William street. Mrs. Haworth had been ill for a number of days, having contracted a severe cold and her feeble condition was such that she could not rally. Her life went out in the 80th year of her age. She was a native of Clinton county, Ohio, where she was born January 19, 1812. In 1830 she became the wife of Mahlon Haworth. The couple came to Illinois in 1853, residing at Mechanicsburg until 1857 when they came to Decatur. They have since resided in this city, the venerable lady living to enjoy the prosperity of her husband and sons in business and their tender and loving care, as well as that of her daughters, during the declining days of her stay on earth. Mrs. Haworth was for 50 years a member of the Methodist church, and all her life she was a faithful christian woman. As a wife and mother, a kind neighbor and friend, she will ever be remembered.
Obituary* 2 Jan 1892 Death of Mrs. Mahlon Haworth-Heart Failure the cause of her demise-Sketch of her life.
Mrs. Mahlon died of heart failure at 11 o'clock last night, at her home, No. 351 West William Street. She was taken ill three weeks ago with the grip and although she had long been troubled with an affection of the heart, the ailment was greatly aggravated and resulted in her death. The end came very peacefully and when the lamp of her life went out it marked the close of a long and useful career. Had Mrs. Haworth lived until the 19 of next month she would have been 80 years old. She was born January 19, 1812, in Clinton county, Ohio, her maiden name being Sarah Jane Woolman. In August, 1830, she was married to Mahlon Haworth. The aged husband with five children survive the wife and mother. They are L.L. Haworth, G.D. Haworth, James W. Haworth, Mrs. K. H. Roby and Mrs. Geo. S. Simpson. Mrs. Haworth was for fifty years a member of the Methodist church. She untied with that church when a young woman and throughout her long career she remained a faithful and consistent member of that faith. She was always a true and loving wife, and a devoted mother. The many years that were allotted to her she lived well and in her death her children and husband find consolation in the fact that no act of her's arises to cause regret. Her life was pure and spotless. During her long residence in Decatur Mrs. Haworth made many friends by her kindly and loving nature, and beyond the family circle there will be many who will deeply deplore her loss.
