George Cornell

Genealogies of Rhode Island Families.

George Cornell was born in 1676, and, like his father, was a lifelong farmer in Ports­mouth, where he died Nov. 3, 1753, aged seventy-­six. He was a member of the Society of Friends. Three times married, his first wife was Philadelphia Eastis (or Eustis), of Salem, Maass., to whom he was united in Newport. After her death, he mar­ried at the Friends Meeting, in Newport. Nov. 11, 1696, Deliverance, daughter of Gov. Walter Clark. She died Oct. 8, 1732, and Mr. Cornell married, a third time, Abigail Sisson, daughter of John Sis­son, becoming his wife March 8, 1735. He was the father of sixteen children.

In "Slaves in Little Compton" by Mr. Wilbour on page 51 it says, "According to the census of 1774 there were forty-four negro slaves owned in Little Compton. The largest number owned by any one family at that date was three. The following people owned slaves: ... David Cook 2, ..."
