1900 census for Hempstead County shows John married to either Sabia or Fabia who was born in Sept 1881. Previous information had shown him to be married to Ophelia Hartsfield. He may have married Ophelia after Sabia.

Mrs. Thelia Samuel, 81, of 710 Pine died yesterday at Jefferson Hospital. She had been hospitalized two weeks.
Mrs. Samuel was born at Hope and attended schools there. In 1902 she was married to the late J.W. Samuel. For the past several months she had been living with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. And Mrs. C.M. Burke of 710 Pine.
Other survivors include two sons, Carlton Samuel of Hope and Paul Samuel of Los Angeles; one brother, J.W. Hartsfield of Clarita, Okla.; one sister, Mrs. Sam Kemp of Dallas; three grandchildren, Bryan Burke of Fordyce and Peggan and Michael Samiel of Hope; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at White Oak Grove Baptist Church at DeAnn. Burial well be in DeAnn Cemetery by Herndon Funeral Home of Hope.
