According to Ida P. Wade Thomas, this woman was a Mississippi Choctaw and left the tribe when it was moved to the reservation. Her husband was said to be Irish, and her mother was supposedly named McELROY.

Wade); EXTRACTION: William P. born 3 Dec 1808 in Kentucky, moved to Missouri in 1845, to Texas in 1878, to Indian Territory in 1886, & finally back to Clay Co. before his death. Married in Kentucky abt 1836 to Lady Townsen.
CONFLICT: 1880 Grayson Co. Texas Census; ; James M. states parents born in Virginia while Ida Pauline (daughter of James M.) thinks it was Kentucky.
CONFLICT: If William Porter Wade was born in 1808 as stated by Ida Pauline, then he would have been age 42 in the 1850 census. Therefore, the following census record seem to be in question. However, James Wade, the son would have been age 7 in 1850.

BIOGRAPHY: Ida Pauline Wade Thomas' Two Books of Memories; ; written in 1953-1955; In poss of T.Mason (R.A.THOMAS file); NOTE: Book 2 states that he lived past 90 and died of typhoid and pneumonia. He was a powerful man of God, steadfast, much knowledge of scriptures. In 1877 the family was living at the "Old Ed Rowe Ranch" in Grayson Co., Texas. (South of Madill, Okla. across the Red River.) Later they moved near Gordonville, Grayson, Texas.

The baby died of T.B. when not a year old and Nannie soon followed. Uncle Charley remarried.

They insisted on me going home with them & going to school. I remember the 3 days travel through the wilderness of trees, sandhills & streams and then across Red river between Ind. Ter. & Texas to their 80 acre home in Clay County, Texas. Just a 2 room house & upstairs fireplace, orchard and old log barn. Fannin Town was name of school & church building. Was pioneer times even in Texas, but had good school system and Ind. Ter. had none. Stayed about a year. Were about 100 students, mostly boys. I went to work helping keep house, cook, wash, iron for a family of six and a teacher lady was boarding. $30 a month for clothes and books for school. Lizzie was only about 6 months older than Ida Pauline Wade. In 1891 they are also to have moved to Indian Territory.

1900 Clay Co. Texas census indicates father was born in North Carolina, mother born in Alabama.
Ida Pauline Wade Thomas writes in bk #1 of memories that Uncle Charlie (Father's Bro.) came with his young wife & son, Charles Edward, persuaded me to return to Fannin Town school in Texas. P.O. was Joy. "Little Edward" had a fever.
