He is age 39 with wife, Parlie (35), son, George (16), son, Other (14), daughter, Mae (12), daughter, Hazel (5), son, Jessie (3 2/12), Louie Kinard (boarder) (37), Minnie Lee Kinard (boarder) (34), Minnie Waldrop (19) and Bessie Waldrop (1 ½) Kinard as boarders also. Monroe’s profession was a carpenter. All but youngest could read and write.
In 1930 James M. (49) - bricklayer, is living with his wife, Mary P. (45). Their children: Hazel (15); Jesse (12); and Jewel D. (9).
John H. Borden is listed in the 1910 Federal Census with wife, Rose B., and son’s Alford L. (4), Vernon (2) and daughter, Flora B. (9/12). Rose’s father was born in Georgia and John’s mother was born in Florida. All others were born in Alabama. John is a laborer in the coal mine and both can read and write.
In 1920 John H. (35) and wife, Rosa B. (34) are in Pope Co., Arkansas with children: Alfred L. (13); Vernon (11); Flora B. (10); Nora E. (8); and Eula C. (5), who was born in Arkansas.
In 1930 John H. Borden (45) - coal miner, and his wife, Rosa B. (44) are living with daughters, Nora E (18); and Beulah C. (16).
The 1910 Federal Census lists Walter P. Reed (28) as living in Cordova with his wife Tiny A. (18) and their two children: Charley J. (2), Perney M. (8/12). Also living in the home were brothers Samuel Reed (20) and Randolph Reed (16). Walter was a farmer and Samuel worked in the coal mines. Randolph is also listed as a farmer. Even though Walter is listed as the employer, the land is listed as belonging to Timie.
In 1920 Walter P. Reed (40), farmer is listed with his wife Timey (36). Their children: Charley (13); Purule (9); Lillie (5), Birda (7/12).
Alford A. Jacks (26) is listed in the 1920 Census with his wife, Irene (20) and their children: Alvin (3) and (Living). They were all born in Alabama along with their parents. Alford was a miner, but could not read or write. Irene could read and write.
In 1930 Irene (31) is listed with her husband, Alph Jacks (32), a farmer, and their children: Alvin (15); Living (13); Arland (9); Clarence (5); Hillard (2 4/12); and Charlie (11/12).
In the 1930 Census, M. C. Borden (25) is listed with wife, Alma (25), and children: Willie Lee (7); McKinley Jr. (5); Cathelene (3 4/12); Sherman T. (1). M. C. was a farmer.
According to the 1920 Walker County Census an Alma Hambrick - daughter of Will and Tillie Hambrick - lived in Precinct #12 - Cordova, AL. She was listed as being 14 yrs. Old, born in Alabama and working as a laborer in a cotton mill. Her father was born in Alabama, but her mother was born in Georgia. Will Hambrick was 40 yrs. Old in 1920 and worked as a miner in a coal mine. Wife, Tillie, was 36 yrs. Old and lived at home with her eight children. Alma’s siblings were: Neavie age 17, Florence age 12, Robert age 10, Marshall age 7, Theadore age 5, Ellen age 2 11/12, and Emile age 7/12.
In the 1930 census, Benjamin F. (68) is listed with Ida F. (56). They are living in Kansas, Walker County, Alabama. There are no children. Her mother was born in South Carolina.
Ben F. Borden is listed in probate records (no will) dated January 21, 1937 as dying on January 11, 1937 near Kansas. Those listed in the probate are: Ida, wife (63), Mary Ann Thompson, sister living in Mississippi; Monroe Borden, ½ brother living in Pennsylvania; Roy Boyd, nephew; James Borden, nephew; John Borden, nephew living in Mississippi; Joe Borden, nephew living in Cordova; Perry, nephew living in Cordova; George Borden, Great nephew living in Cordova; Mack, nephew living in Cordova; Chas. Reed, great nephew in Cordova; Pernie Griffith, great niece living in Anniston; and Birt Reed, great niece living in Anniston.
Mary Ann and Daniel are listed in the 1900 Census as Daniel (30) and Mary A. (35) married for eight years with no children. Daniel is a farmer.
They are listed in the Walker County, Alabama 1910 Census as Daniel Thompson (45) and Mary A. (43) married for 17 years with no children.
In the 1910 census, John C. (52) has been married to Nancy C. (41) for 16 years. She has had three children - two are living. William H. (16) and Ray (12).
1920 Federal Census lists John Boyd (49) with his son, Ray (10) living in Quinton, Walker County, AL.
Nancy (52) can be found in the 1920 census in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. She is an inmate at Bryce Mental Hospital.
1930 Census, listed John C. Boyd (72) widowed farmer, living with son, Ray (21).
According to Nancy’s will, dated April 22, 1929, Carter Manasco was appointed as guardian for Ray Boyd, a minor child, to protect his interests for final settlement. It is interesting that her husband, John, is not made guardian of Nancy’s estate. According to court documents, Sheriff S. Lacy was in charge of the estate during the time she was in Tuscaloosa until her death. William H. Boyd is listed as being over the age of twenty-one years, residence unknown. The children are listed as the only heirs of Nancy C. Boyd, deceased. Ray Boyd is listed as living in Dora, Alabama and William H. Boyd as Grove, Arizona. John was paid money quarterly from her estate until her death.
