Easter Hines

RESEARCHER: Information sent to T.Mason by Nan Wolf [71532.734@compuserve.com] on 28 Dec 2003. "In the 1840 census she has 14 slaves and a history book mentions that (because of the large amount of slaves) she was one of the wealthiest people in Crawford County in 1840.
Two years later in 1842 she married Jonathan Epler/Eppler, widower.
Because of this marriage her name is removed by her son, David Hinds as a co-administrator of the John Hinds estate.  This was published in the
newspaper.  In 1846, her second husband, Jonathan Epler/Eppler dies.  In 1850, the last we hear of Esther, she is on the 1850 census as Easter Eppler, age 73, head of the family and is raising four of the oldest of David's children with three slaves.  David's widow, Margaret (Mattix) Hinds, has re-married to a Rev. John Autry, a widower with
children and has just the two youngest Hinds girls living with her and Rev. Autry. In 1852, the oldest child of David Hinds moves to CA taking
the youngest boy with him leaving me to believe that Esther Hinds Eppler has probably died." The Crawford Co. courthouse burned in 1871.

Nan Wolf's notes on Esther (?) HInds Eppler.
In the 1850 census, Easther Eppler, age 73, who neither reads nor writes is the head of the house in the VanBuren Twp, Crawford Co, AR census.
Those under the same roof are Edward Hinds (19 yrs.), John Hinds(17), Elizabeth Hinds(15), Archie Hinds(13) (This is our Archibald Yell Hinds) and a black male, Thomas Hinds(3 yrs). So, son David has died and possibly so has his wife, Margret, and Grandmother is raising the children.

Film 0874326 Page 50: (Apr. 1842)" ...the said Easther Hinds has intermarried with a Jonathan Easler(most likely Eppler), it is therefore ordered by the Court here that the said letters, testamentary, be vacated as to the said Easther Hinds, & that the said David Hinds have full power & authority, to administrator for & recover all the singular goods & chattel rights & indits of the said John Hinds, deceased in his own name. (This is 4 yrs. after the will was filed.)
In a Crawford Co.history book by Clara Eno she mentions that the heirs of David Hinds are Margaret Hinds, Esther Eppler, Jonathan Eppler and a John Hinds of KY.
