Peter married first to Sarah Lee Woods Carpenter. Second marriage was a sister to Sarah in 1849 - Elizabeth CARPENTER. His third wife he married in 1854, a Mrs. Anabella Dodge Holderman CHURCHILL (widow of Col. Churchill). She died of cholera the same year she married Dr. Peter Mason. His fourth he married in 1857, a Mrs. SHREVE. Were prominent citizens in Danville, Boyle, Ky. Mr. L. Pearce, corresponding with Mrs. Boyd, DAR member said "Sarah Woods was the mother of Elizabeth Fishback Mason, who md. Lawson Abram Moore. They were the parents of Ella Moore who married Levi Pearce, who had Lawson Moore Pearce who was father to Lawson M. Pearce, last of San Antonio, Texas. Peter & Elizabeth's son, James Rogers md. Julia Abbey Pearce, the sister of my grandfather Levi. Peter and his 2nd wife had Annie Mason, who married Francis Moore Pearce, the brother of my grandfather Levi Pearce." (See note following James Rogers Mason for rest of quote.) Mr Lawson Pearce indicates that a grandaughter of Peter replace his broken tombstone (after 1961) and placed full name on it. Her mother indicated that Peter's name was Baynhum rather than Bainum as listed in book "The Fishbacks in America". We presume Dr. Peter B. changed the spelling. Peter B. Mason was living in Danville at time of 1850 census.

Tribute from Gov. Tho. Crittenden writes from Kansas City,MO that Judge Luther Mason died here yesterday of pneumonia. (Lists several relatives.) Member of Presbyterian Church.
Newspaper article in Examiner.net on 12May2001, "Richard Cordill and Judge Luther Mason once owned the land, which eventually became a thriving subdivision, a church and an elementary school.
Cordill-Mason Elementary School in southeast Blue Springs was named after the original landowners. Phase one of the school was completed in the fall of 1976, more than 135 years after Mason purchased his portion for farm land.
According to historical books at the Mid-Continent Public Library, Mason owned 965 acres in that area. Prior to purchasing the land in 1840, he lived in Independence for two years. Mason was also a stock grower, a school director, and a county judge for two years. Cordill and Mason were listed as purchasing the property in 1840."

OBITUARY: Copy in James Mason file; EXTRACT: Mrs. Caroline Wheeler, of Winchester, died yesterday at noon in Winchester, Kentucky. Mrs. Wheeler was a lady of most estimable character, and a consistent member of the Christian Church for many years. She leaves several chidren living, among whom are Mrs. Gen. Jas. F. Robinson of this city, Mrs. Leeland Hathaway of Winchester, and Capt. J.L Wheeler, also of that city. The family have the most sincere sympathy of the entire community in their great sorrow.

INFO: Letter from Lou Anne (Mason) Hamel on 3 Nov 1988 states - I have two sisters from my mother's first marriage. They are: Esther Nell Fluke (Sowers) 8/1/26 and Verda Leona Fluke (Gabler) 11/19/34. My mother's mother was Laura Barrett (the Irish side) and she married Martin Luther DePugh (the French side from Virginia). I believe her father was born in 1876. He was 27 when my mother was born. However, he was killed just two or three months before my mother was born.
DEATH: Letter from Lou Anne (Mason) Hamel on 26Mar2001. EXTRACT: From September of 1997 until Dec 1998 mom was ill with cancer. Many times during that period, different friends would go to help cheer her. They would come away cheered up. She had a good attitude until the very end.

DEATH: Letter from Lou Anne (Mason) Hamel on 26Mar2001. EXTRACT: Eleanor died in Bethesda, Maryland, her home of many years. She was cremated and buried at West Point with her husband. I was her official guardian for about 3 1/2 years until she died. She had dementia.
