In 1817 he visited his relatives in Virginia and met his future wife, a woman of great amiability and charm. After their marriage, with their servants, they started their journey on horseback to their future home in Kentucky, but remained only about a year when they returned to Virginia and lived at "Cedar Hill". They are buried in the "Buckton" cemetery. They had three children, one dying in infancy."
